Had a long discussion with a couple of people who are convinced that the Arab Spring is essentially PNAC. Problem is, it doesn't make sense when you dig into it - what happened in Iraq? Um, I guess they messed up. What's the deal with Egypt? Um, let's not talk about that. The point is, the US has always been behind al Qaeda, and are using it to overthrow any regimes that don't go along with the plan. Eh.
So anyway, that site has such things as "why would the NYT confuse the similar names of two sects, as Erdogan did - unless it was part of a sinister plot?" Well, that seems to be a favorite theme among the conspiracy minded, but you really don't need to go that far to explain sloppy reporting. It's all over the place. Often just, well, sloppy. The implication is that instead of sloppy, they're part of a huge, well coordinated plan... which is really far less plausible.
