Trials, and pretrial stuff too, require a lot of accumulated knowledge feeding judgments that have to be made constantly, frequently instantly, under constantly changing circumstances. Right now I feel like I do all of that as well as I ever have, and it's informed with 30 years of experience. So life experience definitely informs your effectiveness and improves your perspective and ability to read situations and make quick decisions.

However, I'm not 60 yet and the guys I've seen reach that age or maybe a bit older for the most part experience some deterioration in the ability to do it, and the energy needed to do it. And I'm already feeling less energetic (as in, I have a harder time doing 15 hour days for three weeks running, weekends included) so I feel it coming too. I think there's something to backseat's idea, though the age he picked might be arbitrary.

And trying cases, as stressful as it is, has nothing on being President in terms of pressure or stress. Every young president looks ten or fifteen years older four years later.
