And I'm not even saying that they need to adhere to the terms' classical definitions. Basically the words "liberal" and "conservative" delimit voting blocks which align themselves according mainly to region, identity, and perhaps the wooliest vestiges of political ideology.
As far as conservatives (as one understands them to be) being the real neoliberals, I'd just say that the entire visible spectrum of American politics has been completely won over by neoliberalism.
