Catholics have a different view on the authority of scripture than does Protestants. They view the Church has just as prominent of a role as establishing doctrine as does the bible. Protestants believe in Sola Scriptura...ie "scripture alone" has that role.

In fact, when the church in Ephesus was setting up elders, they are told to check the qualifications of the elder, and one of them was how the managed their household, and that they are married to only ONE spouse not multiple (which sort of undermines the celibacy of the Preisthood thing).

1 Timothy 3:2 An overseer, then, must be above reproach, the husband of one wife...4 He must be one who manages his own household well, keeping his children under control with all dignity 5 (but if a man does not know how to manage his own household, how will he take care of the church of God?)
