The general public is pretty evenly split on the issue. I don't if there's a tangible lean on the issue among indep. voters, or in swing states, so maybe that changes things a bit.

It seems likely to energize both bases, and I guess it's a question of who can make the most hay by November. I guess a question there is whether the average Democrat likes gay folks as much as the average Republican dislikes them.
