Muni is gawdawful. BART is clean and safe, but doesn't make enough stops to cover the whole Bay Area, nor does it connect well with the bus systems. CalTrain is pretty much the same.

The real problem with the Bay Area is that there isn't a central authority over all the transit systems, which is why your bus tends to leave just before the train gets there.
