historically, 9/11 was a blip, as far as combat casualties per 100,000 population.

The genocides - were they "battle deaths"? Similarly, the "Great Leap Forward" killed tens of millions, but those weren't "battle deaths".

I wonder if you go back another 100 years, what do you see?
