If the guy still has a broken nose, grass stains on his back, was bleeding from cuts on the back of his head, was some degree of witness corroboration, which he appears to, gonna be tough to get 12 people to agree that self-defense was not a reasonable possibility.

I think political considerations dictate an arrest anyways, but this won't be an easy case to win, from the sounds of it.
