If you include old pensions, that would be necessary to make the numbers even, since GM - being a much older company - has significantly higher pension costs.

Actually, the best bailout the Feds could give the auto manufacturers would be a single payer medical system.

I've read that US are at a competitive disadvantage with Canadian plants because of the effective subsidy that the Canadian medical system gives them.

I even read one auto exec (don't remember which company) come out in favor of some form of socialized medicine for that very reason.

But I semi-digress...
