The original rules were a shot every time he said "my friends". That's 22 shots in 90 minutes. When I was in my first year of college, a frat guy died taking 21 shots over the course of 5 hours on his 21st birthday.

Hopefully people just modified it to a drink of beer every time instead of a shot. That'd work well.
