The Thomas hearings were one of the worst moments in a generation.

In Reply to: He deserves credit there, but Albright and Reno were pretty high up in the food chain, no? posted by buzz on 2003-04-03 15:29:29

Clinton almost hated Reno from what I understand, and Albright wasn't an insider.

The Thomas thing, though. That was a warning, and one of the most shameful episodes ever. The way Danforth and Thomas manipulated this whole deal to be about unfairly delayed accusations, his status as innocent until proven guilty, the "lynching".

He wasn't on trial, for christ's sake...the question as to whether he was a good candidate for one of the most important jobs in America - a seat on the Supreme Court - was under discussion. You don't have to prove beyond a reasonable doubt...it was a JOB INTERVIEW. Anita Hill decided this was probably the right moment to speak, or forever hold her peace. For that, she was called a whore, Thomas played the race card and not one fucking democrat on that committee stood up and said 'find somebody else....this guy has no experience, no backkground and no judgment.'

makes my blood boil.
