So many reasons that electric vehicles are preferable to any sort of internal combustion engine, and the only thing holding them back is battery technology and inertia. My guess is that within 10 years, the technology will be advanced to the point that it will be much cheaper to have most vehicles fully electric, while a few poor folks who can't afford a new car will increasingly struggle to fill their outdated tanks.
