On the first one, I think the punch dislodged his mouthpiece so much that he just let it fall out.

On the second one, while he did spit it out, he bought himself MAYBE 5-10 seconds. That whole time, Diego was recovering while Jose was getting pumped up.

First time I saw it, I instinctively had an issue with the stoppage (good ol' boxing). But, after watching the replay a hundred times or so, I agree with it. A guy in trouble caught up in the ropes is different world than being in trouble in the middle of the ring. Castillo was, without a doubt, out on his feet. Who knows what kind of damage he would have sustained had the ref allowed the fight to continue.

If you watch the whole fight it's easier to swallow. The first nine rounds were fucking war. Diego, the taller man, fought unabashed on the inside with the shorter, stronger Castillo. Both fighters looked like they were on the verge of ending the fight from rounds 6-9.

This round may not capture all that. I'll just say that I dished out the $50 or water on PPV and watched it in its entirety at least five times in the first 24 hours on DVR. Of all the Vegas/boxing shenanigans I've seen, this one doesn't even rank.

Just put yourself in Diego's shoes. Floored for the second time, eye swollen shut, disoriented; but still he has the heart to get up and fight. Not just "swing for the fences" fight, but really fight. He took a couple more vicious hooks before he landed that meaningful punch to turn the fight around.

I urge you to watch the whole fight if and when you get the opportunity. I'll try and find a link tomorrow.
