Mainly because she got lumped into the "angry female singer/songwriter" category due to the success of "One Of Us". That was never really her schtick. She was always a more complex artist than that. Successive albums have dealt with the blues, R&B, soul, and even country. Who else can claim to have toured with the Dead, the Funk Brothers and the Dixie Chicks? That's what I call range.
