Overall, I like the idea.

It would be less art-housey if there were a plot, so the music would be pushed more to the background.

Your scenario reads somewhat like mankind gradually conquering the solar system, and then stagnating, as limits are perhaps reached.
The ending could be an opening to the stars, perhaps with new technology, perhaps with contact with another race.

The tricky part might be having characters that continue through the aeons. Otherwise the film would have a piecemeal, short story collection feel.
