Why is gsw_hoops such a blind homer for this team?

I just scrolled down a bit and saw this joker trying to excuse last night's debacle, and one of the lines he used was "Have they ever come close to this before?. No. So, you have no point," in reply to a comment by Mugatu.

Um, if you forgot, the Warriors were previously tied for the lowest point total in the fourth quarter - 6. They topped their own record, so yes - they have come close to this before.

The entire fourth quarter was a debacle of epic proportions. You can keep coming up with all the excuses you want, but the team and the coach sucked the big one for the last 17 minutes of the game. To wit:

* The entire quarter, Musselman called one time out. ONE. The only other one they called was a 20 second time out when they couldn't inbound the ball. Yet in spite of this, Musselman's excuse after the game was that the team ran out of energy?

Well, gee - don't you think you should've taken a couple more to give them a breather if they were that bad? Stupid, stupid coaching. He did nothing to try to put a stop to Toronto's momentum, and any time the players looked to him for something, he just waved them on. If I was out there, I'd have called a time out myself, with or without Musselman's direction.

Funny thing is, the players didn't agree with his "fatigue" excuse. They knew they didn't get the job done and weren't going to blame it on fatigue. Oops!

* Not only that, the play that was called for Claxton at the end of regulation was horrible. Of all the people on the court, you mean to tell me that Claxton's the guy you want to be trying to create his own shot as the clock's running out? Fittingly, he didn't even get the drive started until there were 2 seconds left, and he never even had a chance.

* In overtime, when Toronto had the ball for the last possession, the team had a foul to give. Basketball wisdom dictates that if you have the foul to give, you give it. They let Carter work the ball in too close, and by the time they could've fouled it was too late. Horrible coaching, again.

* Next, what's the deal with going away from the hot hand? Jason Richardson was having another strong game but was nowhere to be seen in the entire 4th quarter. If the team is supposed to be running this so-called open offense, why does it work in the first half or the first three quarters, then suddenly disappears in crunch time? He had, what - three, four shots after halftime after something like a dozen in the first half? He wasn't getting the ball enough in situations where he could do a whole lot with it.

Musselman also didn't do anything to stop the bleeding in the fourth when it came to the play calling. If it wasn't a rushed shot at the end of the shot clock, it was a turnover. Obviously that wasn't working, so why didn't they try to run a few plays inside, draw a few fouls, and get to the line? If nothing else, put Dampier back in and just feed him the ball every time. Again, bad coaching. Terrible execution by the people on the court, but Musselman did nothing to help. Instead, he basically just watched.

* I don't even need to get into how many times he's failed to take advantage of 2-for-1 opportunities at the end of a quarter. Hmm, let's see - can you count how many times the Warriors have found themselves in that position, only to take a shot with 15-20 seconds left, give the other team the last shot, and pay for it when the other team scores? Any time you have a chance to get the last shot of the quarter, you take it.

You claim the team's having issues like this because of injuries. I say that's an excuse and a copout. They didn't have a problem Friday night against Denver when they had 6 people with 30+ minutes and none of the other 3 who played reached double figures in minutes, but now it's an excuse when the team blows a sure win and a 16-point lead after three quarters by going soft and stinking up the joint, only scoring 8 points in the last 17 minutes?

You're blind, man. This team has serious problems in upper management, serious problems in the coach's seat, and serious problems on the court. It's been this way for a decade, yet you can always be counted on to come up with some sort of excuse for the mediocrity and an insult for the people who don't wear your rose-colored glasses.

When are you going to wake up and see the light? Ever?

Oh - and you're a really big guy there, threatening violence on people over a computer. Don't make me laugh.

You're a joke.
