Could Arenas leaving be the best thing to have happened to the Warriors in a LONG LONG TIME???

Many said when Arenas left that we're screwed. At the time I COMPLETELY disagreed.

Now it has become evident from Mullin's words that once Arenas left, a chain of events was set in action where Warriors decided to do a complete makeover and reduce the cap while keeping the best young core and give the future flexibility.

Had Arenas signed for MLE, we would've been hamstrung by giving him a year to prove and then offering him a big deal next year. No other moves would've made sense as it would've been a matter of keeping the team to allow continuity at every position and improve. Whether Arenas re-signs or not, we stood to be capped out until 2008 with no chance whatsoever to reload through free agency or the draft for a stud PF/C. And if Arenas had left after taking MLE for a year, we would have been in even worse shape as guys would've gotten more used to him at PG and improved W-L would've meant bad draft pick.

And Arenas+Jamison would not have been enough to take you to 50 wins ever in all likelihood, plus we'd have had no chance to significantly upgrade any position with all the overpaid contracts on the roster and being completely capped out.

I think Arenas leaving prevented Warriors from stupid moves now and in the future and forced frontoffice to take a look at the roster from zero and decided best course of action.

I stick by my opinion when Arenas left that that could turn out to be one of the BEST things to have happened to this franchise!!!
