OAKLAND (CBS13) – CBS Sports Radio 1140 is the new radio home for the American League West champion Oakland A’s in Sacramento and the Central Valley.

The A’s and CBS Sports Radio 1140 have agreed to terms on a multi-year contract to broadcast regular-season games as part of the A’s Radio Network, beginning with the upcoming 2013 season.

Owned and operated by CBS RADIO, the 50,000-watt station will also broadcast 10 exhibition games this spring, starting with this weekend’s games in Arizona.

“We are extremely excited to welcome CBS Sports Radio 1140 AM to the A’s Radio Network,” said Ken Pries, the A’s vice president of broadcasting and communications. “Beyond serving a major market like Sacramento, their 50,000-watt coverage will reach hundreds of thousands of A’s fans in the Central Valley.”

”Sports fans in Northern California are passionate about major league baseball,” said Steve Cottingim, senior vice president and market manager of CBS RADIO Sacramento. “We are pleased to be broadcasting all 162 regular season Oakland A’s games on CBS Sports Radio 1140 led by Ken Korach, who begins his fourth year as the team’s lead play-by-play voice.”

CBS Sports Radio 1140’s coverage reaches as far north as Red Bluff and as far south as Merced, while also providing a clear signal to eastern Alameda and Contra Costa counties.

The small-market A’s again captivated the baseball world last season with their amazing run to the AL West title. Oakland, which again had the lowest payroll in the majors last season, won its last six games and eight of its last 10 to pass Texas on the final game of the regular season for the division title.

The A’s came back from a 2-0 deficit to force a deciding fifth game with the Detroit Tigers in the divisional playoffs but lost to Tigers ace Justin Verlander for the second time in the series.
