Video starts with the Cs having already gotten the switch. Beans on Pierce, who can drive on him, and Rush on KG, who can shoot over him. Defense is already broken down right there. Sooner or later, they are getting a good look.
Pierce drives left. Beans does a good job not fouling and staying between Pierce and the rim. Cannot expect more than that. But help has to come. Pierce just has too much in his arsenal.
Despite some good defense from Beans, every other go-to guy shoots that anyways. Whether it is taking it right at him, or a stepback, it's going up. Even Chris Paul. Not Pierce. He trusts his offense and his teammates, and uses it as an opportunity to find the best shot.
Lee correctly stays with Bass, giving him neither the open J nor the baseline cut to the basket. Klay correctly stays right with Ray. So many people leave Ray in that situation. Why would you ever leave Ray in that situation?
The big read is on Brandon Rush, who he can't see due to the fact that he is behind him. Is he going to collapse and help, or not? Either way, they are getting a good look. If he doesn't, Pierce spins back to the middle and goes up from 5 feet, with Beans already too far back to contest. And if he does, KG is right in that spot, which he knows before he even turns around.
A simple play, with nothing fancy about it.
Except for the fact that nobody else save the Spurs and LeBron really plays this way. Everyone should play this way.
