mf surgery was designed to grow cartilage in knees, which does not normally grow back when it has been rubbed off. that was the original use.

calling it surgery is confusing. it was first used in serious cases, yes. but that does not mean the technique itself is serious.

drilling little holes in bone is now being used to stimulate repair of other things besides cartilage. ASFAIK Bogut had all his cartilage in his ankle.

the ideas was to speed up recovery from <=12 months to like 8 months. Which has worked sometimes in similar cases. So they were hopeful.

apparently it did not work. Bogut is now on the schedule he would have been had this technique not been invented

that was why, ASFAIK, they did not mention it. because it was just a technique to hopefully speed up the healing
