On Tyler
----
-Nate likes him and gave him some encouraging praise. Likes his upside and seems to have some sort of relationship with Tyler, based upon Nate saying Tyler wants to be a 4 (not something you say unless you know that for sure). Said he's more agile than Nate was as a player, which kept Nate from playing 4. Tyler can get there, and Nate's expecting big things in the near future. Gave Tyler an enthusiastic Jim Barnett-esque pat on the wrist. Seemed to be genuine praise and not just fluff
-Malone gave JT lots of credit and said it started out as a rough year, but he fought and battled all year long. Really matured off the court, and that's just as important as developing on the court. Malone pretty much telling us with Tyler it's going to be mental every bit as it is physical. If he continues to mature, then we can expect some good things from him. Tyler has been working on his agility (to play more 4), conditioning and post game
On Bogut
----
-They showed a clip of AB dunking on CartMart, and Tyler and Malone's expressions were priceless. Malone was grinning ear to ear and Tyler was literally like "OMG :O" (almost like he saw the clip for the first time ever)
-Malone excited to have Bogut. A real big man. Anchors the defense. GSW need to improve on-ball D, but if a man gets beaten on the perimeter it's reassuring knowing that you got Bogut back there
-Nate said Bogut is a legit defensive presence with a good offensive game. You can run plays through him
-Tyler said Bogut is a great guy to be around, and late last season when Tyler was playing more, Bogut gave him a lot of helpful tips on the big men Tyler was going up against. Said training camp is going to be a battle. Bogut, Lee, himself, Biedrins, whoever else, it's gonna be a battle
On Defense
-----
-Malone asked if he was proud of GSW's progress in defense. He chuckled and said "No not at all. We still have a long way to go to get to where we need to be. EVERYONE needs to get better, in all facets, from the players to all the coaches"
On Malone
----
-Said he's considered around the league as a defensive coach but he said he really is just a basketball coach who tries to help players have success on both ends of the floor
-Good working relationship with Jackson. Known him for a long time, going back to NY days. Good communication between the two
-Voted as NBA's 2012 top assistant coach
On West
----
-Nate still gets goosebumps seeing West roam the facilities and talking with him
-Malone gushed over having West as part of the staff. Said he brings a lot to the table and really cares about helping out Joe Lacob to make this franchise a winning one again
Other than no draft talk, it was a surprisingly solid 10-12 minutes of GSW-related talk. Liked the gym footage of Myers-Jackson-Malone sitting together watching intently and talking with one another.
I feel so much more confident about the draft now. Just knowing how much work these guys are putting in, and we as fans research a lot, imagine HOW MUCH more they're researching, exploring different options, calling other teams, watching lengthy scouting videos, making home visits, etc. etc.
It's these guys' lives!
We are, at long last, finally in good hands. Don't even sweat the draft. Whoever they take at 7, I have a feeling we're all gonna like.
