Tejada and Giambi won the MVP Award. They won the Silver Slugger award. They had Gold Glovers and Cy Young winners. They were superstars despite not having a $100M paycheck yet.
And if a philosophy works over a 162 game season and doesn't work over a 5 game series, does that not show you how much of a crap shoot the playoffs are?
If a team of "good hitters, smart players, good fielders, and good pitching" is not the recipe for a championship, how can you say that the playoffs aren't a crap shoot? LOL.
The two BoSox championships were built the exact same way. Power hitting, guys that get on base, not a lot of speed/sacrificing, and a great pitching staff. Surprise! They won.
