the a's play, for lack of a better term, "white man's basbeall." not a lot of super athletic guys, but good hitters, smart players, good fielders, good pitching. If you execute that philosophy well over a regular season, you'll win a lot of games. But it doesn't work in a 5 game series. That's when you need the superstar the a's can't afford.
