"You need stars to lead in the playoffs."
- What was Jason Giambi? 43 HRs and THE MVP AWARD in 2000. The A's hit 239 HRs that year, 2nd most in the AL. Or how about Tejada winning THE MVP AWARD in and Barry Zito winning the Cy Young in 2002? When you're nominated as the best fuking player in the league, does that not qualify you as enough of a star?
"The only reason the A's finally one a playoff series in 06 was because they lucked into Frank Thomas having a monster season for cheap, and they lucked into riding the Milton Bradley waive for a little while. Without those two, they lose to the Twins."
- Milton Bradley had a horrible series against the Twins. He went 1 for 13. The A's offense as a whole had a horrible series. They had an OBP of .286. The reason they won the series is the same reason they won during the regular season for a handful of years - pitching.
"Until the A's get a power hitter in his prime, they won't ever really be a factor, which is a shame, and a depressing truth for A's fans."
The A's definitely do need a power hitter. That's nothing new or surprising. It's something they are clearly lacking. But don't act like they haven't had that bat before. They have and it didn't work out. Because the playoffs are a crap shoot.
