You are admitting that the team and coaching he's had has been subpar, which is exactly what I said in that post. You are giving Brady all the credit for their success over the years. The truth is, he has had the best team around him his entire career. He has had the best game prep, and the smartest head coach in the NFL his whole career. And while the OC may have changed, the offense didn't.
And tell me, how good did Brady look in the superbowl this year. He actually looked human. Why? Because for the first time ever, he faced a pass rush that constantly harassed him. By the end of the game, he was clearly not the same Tom Brady that we saw all season. He actually made some bad throws and missed some wide open receivers.
Your position is consantly shifting. Mine hasn't. And as we recently found out, Smith didn't have any hot reads to go to, so even the point about holding the ball too long is wrong.
The part of my post that you think is rediculous I still stand by. If Alex Smith had been drafted to the same situation as Tom Brady, he would no doubt be a top 10 QB, maybe top 5.
I'll go even further. Alex Smith came into the polar opposite situation. His rookie year the team had by far the worst talent in the NFL. There wasn't a qb that ever played that could have succeeded with that team. 2nd year, the talent improved but was still poor, and he got a new OC who was very good. He had his best year while learning an entirely new offense. 3rd year, the talent improved primarily on the defensive end, but the OC was completely incompetent, and we are starting to find out just how incompetent he was. Now his going into his 4th year. I predict it will be his best.
You can laugh all you want, but my position on Alex Smith hasn't changed at all, as yours has. My position on the incompetent coaching and poor personnel has been proven out. I will also stand by my position that if Tom Brady had been drafted by the 49ers when Alex Smith was, the results would be about the same.
No QB wins a football game by himself. While it is the most important position on the field, he cannot catch the pass he throws. He cannot block for himself. And unless his name is Payton Manning or Johnny Unitas, he does not design the offense or call the plays.
IIRC, you have gone from him having a weak arm, to having no heart or head for the game, to him holding the ball too long, and now its 'he's been ruined by the situation he's been in'. Seems to me the only difference between your position and my position is that he's been ruined, because I have been saying all along its been a no win position for a qb to succeed. I don't think he is ruined. Only time will prove that out, but it seems you have moved a lot closer to my position than I have to yours.
